Each moment of our life is an opportunity. We can either be awake, grounded and fully open to our experience as it is or we can try to escape. Which one we chose is decided by where we place our attention.
Let's say that you are waiting for the lift. You have 2 choices.
There are plenty of opportunities in daily life to help us develop our moment to moment awareness. The daily commute is an excellent example. We can take a few moments to disconnect from all devices and tune into our breath and body. We can briefly observe the state of our body and mind. This would then allow us to start our day on a solid foundation of awareness.
Over the coming days I'd like to invite you to do the following... Every time you reach for your phone (with the exception of answering a call) notice what is the impulse behind your action. Is it possible that you attempting to escape from your life? If this is the case would you be willing to consider resisting this urge...? Would you try instead to stay grounded... noticing what's going on... noticing if you are resisting anything at that very moment or in your life in general. Chose to be present!
